I love when people ask me what I do for work, mainly because I know what I share could have a lasting impact on their future. However, sometimes I am tempted to remark that, “I don’t work.” Because what I get to wake up and do each day I love so much. As my mentor and Wellington Capital Reserve CEO, Scott Crutchfield says, “What we do has arguably the greatest potential to impact a life, outside of the ministry, it’s the greatest job in the world.” I can’t agree more. And I believe he would agree that in large part what we do is ministry. Many of us at Wellington are unapologetically Christ Followers and view all areas of our lives as ways to reflect the glory and nature of Yeshua. That includes something as basic as the temporal needs meeting of their earthly finances, in a fashion that allows them to live in the future how they live today, adjusted for inflation, and not run out of provisions through life expectancy. Of course, with that goal in mind, building such a system on the tenants and principles instilled by Nelson Nash in Becoming Your Own Banker. This means building things that last, founded on assurance and guarantees that are trustworthy, a very Biblical framework.
If you had told me 8 years ago, I would be a financial advisor I would have laughed myself out of my seat. A young man having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas Tech University did not see any form of finance profession in his 2024 bingo card. Life has a funny way of taking us places we never dreamed of. The Lord knows what we need before we do and He is El Olam, the everlasting God, meaning He knows the secret things and reveals them at the right time. Looking back now I could not imagine a different career to work in, and I count myself blessed to have landed in this opportunity. One of the peculiar benefits I find in clients choosing to trust in me is that, like IBC, my journey is very unconventional. The bulk of my training and education being self-study and searching for the truth in how money works has led me to where I am today. (This is of course with the caveat that my formal training is backed by the appropriate licensing criterion required by the governing bodies which issue my various licenses). My journey to learn IBC is like any other. I had a need in my life from the systems handed to me in my family’s generational business, cattle ranching. And that need found its place in the solutions presented in IBC. That solution has brought me to the joy I have today in helping people along that same journey. Through this several benefits arise to my clients. One being that because my education is not mainstream, I do not conform to the patterns and practices of the mainstream financial wisdom that predicates many of the problems our society is plagued with as it relates to financial literacy. The second is it serves as an example to anyone who wishes to seek control of their financial future, that they can learn and empower themselves, just as I have, to know the truth about how their finances can operate more efficiently and in their control. That the sky is the limit to the one who gives the initiative to learn and seek wisdom rather than naively drink from the fountain of conventional thinking. Honestly, what I do anyone could do, if they tried hard enough. I believe we live in a world that puts the financial minds and institutions on pedestals. When we were all meant to control what God placed in our hands to steward. Given into the hands of the few, we see much of the pain that socialism has caused in the world. A more educated and empowered society that operates in their God-given will power to protect wisdom and property rights, gives way for a society that is better for all. That’s what I wake up each day hoping to endow on my fellow citizens. To invite them to open their minds to the reality that they can control the banking function in their lives as it relates to their family’s needs today and four generations in the future. I hope I get to do it for decades to come. If I have gotten to do it with you reading this, then know you have been used by God to fulfill my earthly joy in what I put my hands to each day.
